DEPARTURE. I manage to board the plane on time, despite enduring another standard, sleepless pre-departure night. A mixture of nervousness and excitement always overwhelms me the night before an international flight, resulting in a short siesta as opposed to the recommended 8 hours of sleep. The expression "you get what you pay for" especially comes to mind aboard my first Spirit Air flight. The staff is very casual, the seats are hard as a rock, and a glass of TAP water costs $3. I'm nearly elbowing my neighbor due to a lack of space as I type this. No regrets... budget travel till the day I die.
Surprise - you cannot fly into the city of Lima without a return flight to the US. I, of course, discover this at check-in and have to buy a fake return ticket so Peruvian customs does not deport me upon arrival.
Note to self: refunds can only be made within the first 24 hours of purchase.

I normally feel a tug-of-war when I leave a place...that is unless it is the United States. Surely when I am older I will feel differently, right?
The screaming child in front of me has reminded me of a very important item I failed to bring with me...headphones. Luckily, I did bring airplane bottles... cheers. My lovely neighbor hands me ear plugs and moments later I'm asleep. I woke up over South America, and smiled.

Not especially impressed at first...that is, until I visited the city center. The architecture was breath taking.
